Shallotte, North Carolina, police responded to an unusual call on November 5. Officers were dispatched to a Chili’s parking lot, where they encountered a sizable snake. The Shallotte Police Department posted about the unusual find on Facebook, stating, “Today officers were dispatched to a large snake in the area of Chili’s. They encountered this python.” Two photos accompanied the post: one of an officer holding the long reptile and another close-up of the python itself.
The police suspected the snake might be someone’s missing pet, and their hunch proved right. The python, named Una, belonged to Christen Schiel, who had been searching for her beloved ball python for two months. “That beautiful snake is my baby girl, Una,” Schiel shared with WECT. “She is the best snake anyone could ever have, and I’ve been missing her deeply for the past two months.”
Schiel believes Una likely slipped into her car at some point and escaped during her visit to Chili’s. After seeing the police post, Schiel immediately recognized her pet and arranged a reunion with Una at Brunswick Animal Shelter the following day. Reunited at last, Schiel expressed her relief and joy: “It was one of the best days of my life because she means a lot to me, just like how someone’s cat or dog means to them. She is a great companion.”
