A cat sanctuary recently went viral on TikTok after sharing a video of a mini fight between the cat residents, saying that they never have big fights, but they do get some “kerfuffles.”
@furballfarmcatsanctuary We don’t have legit cat fights, but we do have some minor kerfuffles right before snack time #kerfuffles #fyp #catsanctuary #foryou #catsoftiktok
The video shared by a cage-free nonprofit cat sanctuary in Faribault, Minnesota shows countless cats of all sizes and colors playing with toys and hanging around the sanctuary. However, two of the cats in the middle of the frame start to fight which spreads through the crowd, which some users called a ‘domino effect.’
The post went along with the caption, “We don’t have legit catfights, but we do have some minor kerfuffles right before snack time.”
The video quickly went viral with over 5.4 million views and thousands of comments.
“it’s just a chain reaction,” one user commented.
“Domino effect but with cats.” another added.
“Me watching this 100 times to make sure I see every cats reaction to the break-out brawl.” another wrote.
Minor scuffles or disagreements between cats can be normal and are a common part of feline social interaction. Cats may engage in playful wrestling or chasing, which can sometimes escalate into brief scuffles or swatting. However, it is important to differentiate between normal play behavior and more aggressive behavior that can lead to fights or injuries. Signs of more serious aggression may include hissing, growling, biting, or prolonged chasing or attacking.
If you notice that your cats are frequently engaging in scuffles or more serious aggression towards each other, it may be a sign of an underlying issue such as territorial disputes, lack of resources or space, or social stress. Addressing these underlying issues and implementing behavior modification techniques can help reduce conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence between cats. Consulting with a veterinarian or animal behaviorist can also be helpful in managing these behaviors.
