Most people know it’s not a good idea to approach a bear. Bears tend to be shy about approaching people, too, but this one treated a wildlife enthusiast to a peaceful close encounter.
Life must be pretty relaxing for bears at the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary in Alaska. Alaska Department of Fish and Game worker Drew Hamilton was camping at the park when this bear strolled over to his site. Much like a camper, the bear sits by the water to take in the lovely mountain scenery and meditate to a simple birdsong soundtrack. For those of us used to seeing bears depicted as violent beasts, this video paints a whole new picture of the animals.
The bear gets too close for Hamilton’s comfort at one point, but a little noise sends him on his way again. Hamilton is pretty brave to sit at his campsite and film through all of this, but it’s clear the bear meant no harm.
