Kaley Cuoco is under fire after sharing her difficult decision to rehome her longtime pet dog, Shirley. The Big Bang Theory actress opened up on Instagram this week, recounting the circumstances that led to Shirley’s rehoming and revealing the dog’s recent passing.
Cuoco explained in a heartfelt video that Shirley had been her companion since puppyhood, but tensions arose after her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, moved in with his German Shepherd, Blue. The two dogs began having severe conflicts, which escalated to dangerous levels. “I loved her so much, but I was really scared,” Cuoco said, emphasizing her concern for the safety of both dogs and the people around them.
Shirley eventually found a new home with Cuoco’s pet handler, Tony, and his wife, Angie. Cuoco described the decision as “excruciating,” adding that Shirley thrived in her new environment. Sadly, Shirley recently passed away at nearly 14 years old from aggressive bone cancer.
While sharing her grief and love for Shirley, Cuoco has faced backlash online. Critics have accused her of prioritizing her relationship over her pet.
