A puppy abandoned with her nine siblings faces a daunting journey to trust again, but one dedicated foster parent is determined to help her overcome her fears.

Tracy Fosterling from Jacksonville, Florida, a seasoned pet parent with five dogs, two cats, and numerous foster animals, recently welcomed a new foster pup into her home. This puppy, left alone with her nine siblings, was found in an extremely frightened state. Fosterling shared her heartbreaking experience in a TikTok video on May 28, under her account @tracyfosterling, stating she had “never seen a puppy so scared.”

The distressed puppy was visibly trembling, recoiling from any human contact. Her tail was tucked tightly between her legs, and she appeared severely malnourished. Despite the daunting task ahead, Fosterling remains hopeful. The video’s caption read, “Long day but she’s out of the shelter and she’s happy,” indicating her commitment to the puppy’s recovery.

Screenshots from Fosterling’s May 28 TikTok video show the terrified foster dog hesitating to move or be touched as she arrived at her new home. The emotional clip captured viewers’ hearts, many of whom were touched by the slight wag of the puppy’s tail at the sight of another dog.

In a subsequent update, Fosterling reported significant progress. Although the puppy remains cautious, she now engages in playful activities, sleeps comfortably, and enjoys belly rubs. Her interactions with Fosterling’s other dogs have been particularly beneficial, as they provide companionship and a sense of security.

The TikTok video has garnered over 3.9 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes, with viewers expressing their admiration for Fosterling’s dedication. Comments poured in, praising her efforts and noting the puppy’s small but meaningful steps towards healing.

“People must have been so mean to her. Breaks my heart to see animals so scared,” one user commented. Another viewer noted the puppy’s progress, saying, “So sad. But did you see that little tail wag at the end?”

“Oh, bless her heart. She’s in the best place she can be! You and your crew will heal her!!” wrote another supporter.

Shelter Statistics in the U.S.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters each year. Annually, around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized. To combat these numbers, shelters are intensifying efforts to promote adoptions, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation initiatives.

Tracy Fosterling’s story underscores the importance of these efforts, showcasing the profound impact of compassionate foster care on the lives of abandoned and fearful animals.
