Ingredients You Need for Dark Chocolate Whole Wheat Banana Bread [Vegan]

  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds, plus 3 tablespoons water
  • 3 very ripe large bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup vegan butter or coconut oil, melted and divided
  • 3/4 turbinado or raw sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate

How to Prepare Dark Chocolate Whole Wheat Banana Bread [Vegan]

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a medium-sized baking pan with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter or coconut oil.
  3. Mix the ground flax seed and water in a small cup, set it aside and let mixture thicken for at least 5 minutes.
  4. Combine the mashed banana and the flax mixture with the remaining melted butter or coconut oil in a large bowl.
  5. Add the sugar and vanilla extract and mix well to combine.
  6. Sift the flour and cocoa powder over wet ingredients.
  7. Add the baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt, and mix it well.
  8. Stir in the dark chocolate and mix it until the mixture is just combined.
  9. Pour the batter into prepared baking pan and bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool in a pan on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes before you run a knife around the edges to pop the bread out.
