Orange-Infused French Toast (Torrijas de la Naranja) [Vegan]
Ingredients
- Old loaf of bread
- 1/2 liter of warm vegetable milk
- 2 tablespoons chickpea flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- Juice of two oranges
- 4 tablespoons syrup
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- Corn or sunflower oil for frying
- Sugar and cinnamon
Preparation
- Cut slices of bread of approximately 3 cms.
- In an elongated pan, mix the vegetable milk, sugar and cinnamon. Dip the slices through that mixture until they are soaked enough.
- Once the bread slices are soaked, take them out and put them in a separate bowl.
- In a saucepan, pour the orange juice and the syrup. Set it on a low heat, stirring until the syrup dissolves. Remove from heat before it starts to boil. Let it cool down.
- Separately in a large cup, place the 2 tablespoons of chickpea flour plus 1/4 cup of water and stir until forming a creamy mixture. This will be the batter the bread slices.
- Fry the slices in plenty of hot oil, being careful not to fall apart.
- When they are golden, remove them and leave them on absorbent paper.
- Then dip the bread in the the mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
- Before serving, sprinkle syrup syrup and orange over each torrija.
