You Can Now Order a ‘Bleeding’ Vegan Steak to Your Door in London

untitled-10

By now, many have taste-tested both the Beyond Burger and the Impossible Burger, two plant-based juicy burger patties that “bleed” beet juice. People have dubbed both patties the clear “future of food” for their realistic textures and “meaty” flavor profiles. Given that more people are choosing to leave meat off the menu for both health and environmental concerns, we’re unsurprised — innovative plant-based options are becoming more and more common, and are catering to every kind of palate.

Because global demands for protein are at an all-time high, it makes sense that different meat-heavy businesses and eateries are beginning to change their tune. Moo Cantina, an Argentine steakhouse in London, is the latest to add a plant-based option that’s better for them and the planet to its menu — and they’re not playing games. They added a legitimate plant-based “steak” that, much like the Beyond and Impossible burgers, “bleeds” beetroot juice.

Per Big Hospitality, Deliveroo reports that there has been an explosive 213 percent increase in the number of vegan orders they’ve received in the past year. We can’t wait to see what amazing innovations the plant-based foodscape will come up with next!

Make Your Own Vegan Steak at Home

While we wait for the vegan “bleeding” steak to come to the states, we can always whip up our own satisfying meals at home with recipes from the Food Monster App. These steaks may not bleed, but they are delicious.

Portobello Steaks

Portobello Mushroom Steaks With Cheesy Rosemary Polenta by Michaell Johnson are divine. These meaty mushrooms, drizzled with a balsamic reduction, sit atop a bed of cheesy, creamy homemade polenta. Pair it with some zesty roasted carrots or sweet potatoes, kale salad, and a glass of wine for a sweet and complete date night or Christmas dinner.

Tofu Steaks

This recipe for Teriyaki Glazed Tofu Steaks by Maya Sozer is an incredibly delicious way to enjoy the plant protein powerhouse that is tofu. These steaks are pan-seared and then glazed with a sweet and zesty homemade teriyaki sauce. Serve with white rice and greens for a hearty and tasty meal.

Veggie-Protein Steak

This Vegetable Protein Steak by Yana Chistyakova is meaty, but there’s not an ounce of meat in it — it’s made from a combination of textured vegetable protein and wheat protein that is cooked in vegetable broth and mixed with savory spices to give it flavor. It’s perfect for dinner any day of the week, for date night, and special occasions — just serve it with your favorite sides!

  1. Why is it still not good enough that people are not eating or using animal products? I would not personaly care for this I eat a whole food plant based diet and don’t like the taste of meat. Most people don’t grow up vegan. For some it comes easy but for many it’s tough to give up something you’ve known all of your life. Most comfort foods are made of meat and people miss these things. Not having a decent meat substitute may be a reason some are not successful following a vegan diet. If people enjoy these meat substitutes and are avoiding animal flesh that should be a good thing.
