vKind has announced a new original vegan cooking show, “Peeled,” featuring zero animal products, no cruelty, and an array of classically-trained vegan chefs!
vKind is a search platform that allows users to look through verified vegan brands, businesses, and professional services in the vegan community. Their new show will be America’s first and only purely vegan cooking competition. There has been a huge increase in demand for an all-vegan cooking competition which prompted the company to produce Peeled.
Vegan numbers are skyrocketing thanks to documentaries promoting the lifestyle and proving that being vegan doesn’t have to be boring. The US plant-based market grew by 27% in 2020, and the global vegan market is expected to be worth $24.3 billion by 2026. Companies worldwide are joining in, and it’s easy to find a plant-based option wherever you go nowadays.
Peeled will feature trained chefs competing against each other in front of an all-vegan panel of judges and will air this summer! The show will be hosted by raw vegan Chef Babette Davis and vegan TV personality and health expert Dr. Shabnam Islam.
The vKind founder and creator of Peeled, Star Simmons, said, “As a vegan and a foodie, I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with cooking shows. Peeled allows vegans and vegetarians to enjoy cooking shows again and gives plant-based culinary arts a platform to be taken seriously.”
The new show draws inspiration from other reality cooking competition shows but puts its own twist on it. The chefs will be challenged with competitive elements that haven’t been seen in cooking shows.
Chef Josie Clemens, a contestant in Season 20 of “Hell’s Kitchen,” will join the cast as a judge. Clemens said, “Competing in Hell’s Kitchen was a great experience, but not at all hospitable for a vegan chef like me who would otherwise never opt to cook anything that wasn’t entirely plant-based. I was thrilled to learn that vKind would be producing an all-vegan cooking competition. Signing on as co-creator was a no-brainer for me.”
She will be joined by the CEO of Sophie’s Kitchen, Dr. Miles Woodruff, ‘New Day, New Chef’ Executive Producer Elysabeth Alfano, and Los Angeles celebrity chef Chris Tucker.
If contestants win over the judges, they will be crowned the “Hottest Vegan Chef” and win a large cash reward to be donated to the charity of their choice.
At the end of each episode, the chef that receives the lowest-scoring dish will be “peeled” off to the compost bin, leaving the remaining chefs to begin their next challenge.
VKind Studios’ award-winning production team will produce the show. Filming will take place at the Vegas Vegan Culinary School and Eatery, the nation’s first all-vegan cooking school in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.
VKind will begin to post videos to their website and Youtube to introduce Peeled cast members with heartwarming video interviews in the coming weeks. There will finally be a place for vegan chefs to showcase their dishes without being surrounded by meat! Their delectable meals will show people just how bright and delicious plant-based dishes can be.
“This season, color is in, and cruelty is out.”
