Thailand’s Path to Becoming a Global Plant-Based Food Hub

Thailand is working to establish itself as a key player in the global plant-based market. The Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) has laid out a roadmap aiming to position the country as a leading producer of high-protein plant-based ingredients. With plant-based diets gaining popularity worldwide, Thailand is tapping into this trend to boost its economy and food exports.

The plan focuses on advancing the production and processing of plant-based foods, such as wheat, sorghum, barley, and corn. The TPSO’s strategy also emphasizes enhancing agricultural infrastructure, encouraging innovation, and fostering collaborations to ensure product quality and competitiveness. Additionally, targeted marketing efforts will aim to expand both domestic and international consumer bases, while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

To strengthen its position in the global market, Thailand will invest in research and innovation, while updating laws and regulations to align with international standards. This includes revising food labeling rules to ensure compliance with global trends, such as avoiding “meaty terms” on plant-based products.
