Burger King will be adding three new menu items to the kids’ menu and value menu in a test spanning 180 locations in the US. All three items will use the plant-based burger patty from Impossible Foods, the same patty used to make the Impossible Whopper that launched in August.
The new items include the Impossible Whopper Jr., Impossible Burger, and Impossible Cheeseburger. In addition to the meatless kids’ menu option, the Impossible Burger and Cheeseburger are value menu options that will be cheaper than the Impossible Whopper. The Impossible Whopper Jr. will be the first time a fast food location has put a plant-based item on the kids’ menu.
These cheaper options will increase the accessibility of the plant-based menu items and perhaps make people more likely to try them, and that is certainly what the company wants. The Impossible Whopper increased Burger Kings sales by 5% and increased traffic to the stores. They will surely be hoping for the same results with the release of even more Impossible Foods menu items.
Plant-based fast food is most certainly on the rise, with more and more restaurants adding vegan or vegetarian convenience foods to their menus. Most recently, coffee chain Dunkin’ expanded their meatless Beyond Sausage sandwich nationwide, and KFC tested plant-based chicken also from Beyond Meat. What meatless fast food will come next?
