This Elephant Worked So Hard Pulling Logs, She Can’t Walk Properly. Luckily, Her Life Just Changed (VIDEO)

Som Jai, the 70-year-old elephant has endured a rough life that has taken a toll on her physically, mentally, and emotionally. This poor girl has spent her life being worked to the bone – literally. Not only does she have injured back hips from a logging accident, but she also only has half her left ear remaining due to an infection that was not properly tended to. This elephant’s spirit has been broken and her hope of a better life evaporated, leaving her angry at the world.

Before the volunteers with the Save Elephants Foundation loaded Som Jai on the truck, they took great care to prepare it so Som Jai could have the most comfortable transport possible. They washed it down, stocked it with delicious fruits, and made sure Som Jai would be secure. The journey from Kanchanaburi to the Elephant Nature Park was going to be life changing for this wonderful elephant so it was important to make her feel safe and taken care of- maybe for the first time in her life.

Elephant Nature Park, located in Northern Thailand, rescues and rehabilitates elephants like Som Jai. It is here that Som Jai will finally be able to be what she was put on earth to be – an elephant and nothing else. Like Alain, a volunteer with Save Elephants Foundation stated, “no more working, no more hoops, no more hitting, no more yelling.”
