It’s no secret that Austin, Texas is a veg-friendly city and now we have even more proof – Austin just got its first all-vegan milk shake food truck, Milky Way Shakes! Let’s repeat that because we know it was a lot to take in: ALL VEGAN MILK SHAKE FOOD TRUCK! Um, yum!
Milky Way Shakes features six shakes made from coconut-based ice cream, blended with almond milk and then served with mix-ins and toppings, such as coconut-based caramel. All of the ice cream, sauces, and syrups are made in house!
And why dairy-free? The co-founders explain on the Kickstarter page, “We will be using coconut milk instead of cow’s milk as our base, lessening our impact on the environment both to produce and store it, as coconut milk doesn’t need to be refrigerated.” Milky Way Shakes’ success with dairy-free milk shakes doesn’t surprise us as more people are starting to wake up to the fact that the dairy industry has been embellishing the nutritional benefits of their products and it also has a devastating impact on the environment and animals. Dairy consumption has been on a steady decline for the past 30 years and the dairy-free industry is flourishing to meet the demand of informed consumers.
