A Touching Goodbye to Lexi, the Gentle One-Eyed Pit Bull Who Won Over Our Hearts (VIDEO)

Ready to have your heartstrings plucked? You probably clicked on this post because of that adorable face in the photo. Maybe, if you’re like us, you didn’t even notice at first that the sweet baby there had only one eye. Really, with a smile like that, who even cares if she’s only got one?

Lexi’s story begins on a sad note, she was found abandoned, tied to a fence in Brooklyn bleeding from her eye and nose. While we can’t know for certain, it is believed that Lexi’s previous guardians may have been abandoned her because she had cancer and her medical needs were becoming too much.

The poor two-year old Pit Bull was brought to a shelter and it was discovered that she had a massive tumor in her head. Luckily, Second Chance Rescue, a Pit Bull rescue group that specializes in dogs that have been abused or neglected, found Lexi and pulled her out of the shelter and took her to get the medical treatment she needed. Lexi underwent three weeks of radiation and was given the most loving care imaginable by the staff at Faithful Friends Animal Hospital.

Sadly, the tumor did not respond to treatment and Lexi passed away. This special dog will not be soon forgotten by the people who came to know and love her. In her short life, she impacted many people and to pay tribute to her and her time on Earth, this memorial video was made. Now it won’t just be those who knew her that remember Lexi, we will too.
