Wishbone is a rescue dog with a very unusual story. He was found on out in the Sterling truck trails – and his body was covered with hundreds of porcupine quills. The poor coonhound even had quills on the inside of his mouth. Terribly skinny and frail, the animal was in a bad place – but now, he looks completely different. And he is ready to find his forever home!
After a kind person brought him to Arenac County Animal Control, Wishbone was taken to the veterinarian who pulled all the quills out of his body. The painful quills must have made it difficult for the dog to eat – when he was found, Wishbone weighed only around 40 pounds, that is at least 20 pounds less than coonhounds his age.
The support and love Wishbone was shown is truly overwhelming. Hannah Senske, one of the hikers who found the dog, started a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money needed to cover Wishbone’s medical expenses. The goal was set as 1,000 dollars – but people eager to help the dog managed to raise as much as 2,310 dollars!
Wishbone is now recovered, strong, and more than ready for his forever home and someone who will love him unconditionally. Arenac County Animal Control is taking applications for the adoption of the beautiful pup – if you are interested in adopting Wishbone, you can find the application here.
