The Touching Story of McLovin’ the Subway Cat and His Human

It is not uncommon for an animal guardian to wish that they could bring their furry best friend with them everywhere they go. But, for some animal guardians, this is not always an option. Thinking about the temperament – and also size of your pet – bringing them shopping with you might not be the best idea.

However, Leslie Noel is one lucky guardian who can bring his cat, McLovin’, wherever he goes! In fact, Noel and McLovin’ have gained quite a reputation for their presence on the subway in Toronto, Canada. Fellow subway riders refer to McLovin’ as the “subway cat.”

Noel found McLovin’ when he was out looking for an apartment, still mourning from the recent loss of his parents. When the landlord went to show Noel the space, he opened the door to find four dead kittens and a fifth still barely alive – McLovin’.

Noel explains to LoveMeow, “I prayed to God. I just wanted not to be alone any more … What I meant was a girl, but the exact next day I found him. And he’s in my life ever since.”

Noel decided he didn’t want to take the apartment, but he did take the cat. And now the two are inseparable! 

Noel had to bottle feed McLovin’ every two hours for two weeks, but he was more than willing to do it.

McLovin’ has the perfect temperament for riding the subway and does not even mind when the train is crowded and a bit loud.  Noel kept McLovin’ on a leash at first, then did away with it. “No cat really likes to be tied down. He just stuck by me.” 

Noel doesn’t have much and money is often tight. He sleeps on a friend’s couch with McLovin’ when he has to, but as long as he has his faithful friend he has all he needs.

The love between these two is incredible. It has even inspired some fans to take rides on the subway just to spot McLovin’. You can follow the pair through the website Noel made for McLovin’.
