What was meant to be a casual surf outing off of Australia’s New South Wales coast turned into a surprise rescue mission when two surfers found a (wait for it…) wallaby struggling to stay afloat in the wavy waters. The men originally mistook the terrified animal for a playful seal (an animal that is more typically seen in Aussie waters), but after a close inspection, they realized that the animal was just a misplaced marsupial in need of assistance.
While it’s not exactly incredible to find a wallaby swimming (wallabies can take quick dips in water if they are too hot, and they can also use large bodies of water as a way to escape predators), it is amazing that such a small animal was able to fight off large ocean waves until help arrived.
Luckily, this little marsupial knew exactly what the surfers were up to. When they pulled out a ski jacket as a makeshift carrier, the wallaby swam towards the surfers and cuddled up in the jacket. Thanks to these surfers, the wallaby was able to safely reach land and hop as far away from the water as possible. With such a scary experience, can you really blame him?

I wish this site would stop using “awesome” so much. Vary the adjectives, for God’s sake!
Thanks guys! Real men care.
