Street dog Tony arrived at Animal Aid Unlimited in Udaipur, India as a “hopeless” case on Dec. 14, 2013. He was near death with a large gash on his face and one leg severed all the way to the bone. No one knew if he would survive and a quiet euthanasia would certainly have been proposed as a solution in any other facility — but not at Animal Aid.
The nonprofit shelter and animal hospital refused to give up on Tony, seeing a fighting spirit in him. Staff immediately set to caring for him and took him into surgery to amputate his badly injured leg and sew up his face.
After a couple troubling post-surgery days when Tony barely ate or moved, things finally started to change for the better. Tony began to be interested in his surroundings and his appetite came back.
In no time, he was hopping around Animal Aid’s shelter grounds, recovering with the help of some adorable rescued puppies.
Over the past few months, Tony has been on the up-and-up, recovering beautifully from his once life-threatening injuries.
As Animal Aid reports, “He has now been almost two months infection and pain free, has gained weight, and his black oil covered fur is now a beautiful brown and white.”
What’s more, Tony has made a lot of new friends.
“Laban and Pinky are his best friends but he has donkey, cow and pig friends too! He runs, he chases, he flips and flops, he kisses and cuddles,” Animal Aid writes.
