Even though their imposing size could make us think otherwise, horses can be incredibly gentle animals – and they know well when such gentleness is needed. Horses are, in fact, highly social creatures who are capable of complex emotions. They also form very strong bonds with one another as well as other species.
Layla, a horse living at FreeHearts Animal Sanctuary, is a perfect example of just how caring and careful these animals can be. As her carers from the sanctuary write, Layla simply loves babies – no matter what species they are – and this sweet video shows it perfectly.
Held by a caretaker, the baby lamb in the video is under a little investigation from Layla – but it is a very loving and gentle one. The horse keeps putting her nose close to the lamb and inspecting the scent of the baby, a little animal somewhat similar to one of her own. From her expression, there is no doubt that Layla is fascinated with baby animals – “she just loves smelling them and touching them,” the carers write – and the little lamb does not seem to mind the big friend’s caresses at all.
