Remember Shirley and Misty, the two rescued elephants who captured the hearts of thousands of Green Monsters earlier this month? We’re thrilled to announce that the staff of The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee has uploaded even more footage of the two elephants enjoying some quality time together!
Shirley was first captured from her natural Sumatran habitat in 1953. She spent the next twenty-four years as a circus elephant with the Carson and Barnes Circus, and lived at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo for a further twenty-two years. She found a new home at The Elephant Sanctuary on July 6, 1999.
Her BFF Misty is a wild-caught Indian elephant, taken from her natural habitat in 1965. She, too, endured several decades as a circus and captive elephant before being brought to the Elephant Sanctuary in 1988.
As you can see in the above video, the girls certainly haven’t let their difficult pasts prevent them from enjoying happiness today! Watch them as they lovingly interact with one another…and we guarantee your heart will melt.
