Dog rescue is not for the faint of heart, and one of Hope for Paws‘ latest rescues certainly serves as proof. Eldad started this rescue alone after a friend called him about a black Pit Bull puppy who was seen limping near a freeway ramp. Eldad immediately headed to the location and spotted the dog hiding in a den after a bit of searching.
While the Hope for Paws team has rescued many a dog (and cat!) from the freeway, this one was way more dangerous! The dog, who Eldad named Yara, was extremely aggressive due to a severely broken front leg. Eldad’s rescue skills and persistence paid off, however, and he successfully led the dog back to the vehicle (with a lot of resistance, mind you). Unfortunately, when he left the dog alone for literally one second to retrieve some water, Yara chewed through the gentle snare and retreated back into the brush. It was frustrating, but Eldad managed to capture her again, this time securing her with not one, but two gentle snares – lesson learned!
After calling Loreta Frankonyte for backup, they used a cage to secure and transport Yara to the vet. Though Yara had to have her leg amputated, it relieved her of so much pain and allowed her to finally realize that she was safe. After training and rehab, Yara did a complete 360! She was finally healthy, happy, and turned into quite the little speed demon! This precious girl is now in foster care awaiting a forever home to call her own.
