In yet another example of just how awesome drone footage can be to whale lovers everywhere, it seems that the technology has now been able to give us a much-coveted glimpse of Migaloo, Australia’s most famous white humpback whale.
“Migaloo” is a name given by Aboriginal elders that means “white fella.” He is one of a number of rare white humpback whales that have recently been spotted swimming in Australian waters, and researchers are hoping that this footage, taken off the Gold Coast of Queensland on Monday, has indeed managed to capture his travels.
Authorities have not confirmed whether or not the whale in the video is Migaloo, or one of his male offspring. Nevertheless, it is still amazing to see this majestic animal move through the water with such elegance – reminding us exactly why we need to ramp up conservation efforts for the humpback whale before it’s too late.
