Rare Footage of Endangered Dolphin and Baby Will Make You Want to Stand Up For These Animals (VIDEO)

Akaroa, New Zealand is a picturesque place, located on the north side of the island nation. It is known for its natural, rugged landscape and it is also home to some of the world’s smallest and rarest dolphins, known as Hector’s dolphins. These marine mammals make their homes in the protected waters off of Akaroa harbor, where dolphin watching draws tourists from all over the world.

Although New Zealand is one of the world’s leaders in ecotourism, their industries continue to pollute the ocean, poisoning the pristine waters, and pose a threat to the lives of these playful animals. Combine this with the usual pollutants like fishing line, fishing nets, and plastic, and it is clear that human actions are the reason that there are only about a hundred of these animals left.

The baby in this video is a good sign that there is hope for this struggling species, but more actions need to be taken if we are to preserve this beloved dolphin. The oceans are the lifeline of the whole planet, without them we cannot exist. By saving the dolphins and the other animals that make their homes in the ocean, we are really saving ourselves.
