As descendants of wolves, dogs love to communicate in a variety of ways. Barking tends to be the most common form of communication between domestic dogs. Every once in while, however, we get to see some of the wild side in our canine companies as they … ahem … “Let It Go” and howl to their heart’s content.
Music, especially the higher-pitched soprano music, can trigger an adorable howling response in our dogs. This response is not negative, although it might seem to the outside ear. If a sounds was making your furry friend uncomfortable, they would typically try to hide their head or possibly leave to another room – much how you would respond to that annoying pop song you despise. Howling is just your pup’s response to the sound, whether it is to music or a siren passing by.
When a song comes on your puppy may think he is responding to a call of a distant relative. To onlookers, his off-key singing along never ceases to be adorable. As is the case of Oakley, the Australian Shepherd pup. In this video, Oakley wakes up from a car ride snooze when he hears his all time favorite song, Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go,” come on the radio. Oakley decides to let go of any inhibitions and sing along with enough broadway-style passion to force smiles on the faces of anyone who watches.
