At times, the dark side of humanity is just too shocking to believe. An extremely disturbing video shared online shows eight teenagers in India dragging three puppies by their hind legs, covering them in leaves and sticks, and then burning them alive, all while laughing as the puppies struggled to escape and died an excruciating, unimaginably painful death.
The punishment for this vile degree of cruelty? A mere 50 rupees, the equivalent to 75 cents USD.
As one would expect, animal activists are outraged and are demanding India enforce harsher punishments for acts of animal cruelty, especially when they are as sadistic as the aforementioned crime. Activists are using the hashtag #NoMore50 to spread awareness of the issue and ignite social change on the matter.
If you would like to see India improve laws regarding animal cruelty, please join the movement, sign the petition here, and share this with your network with the hashtag #NoMore50 to further spread awareness and Support for this important issue!
Many studies have shown that people who abuse animals are likely to abuse humans as well. In fact, an animal abuser is five times more likely to commit an act of violence against another human being. Without harsher penalties for animal cruelty, abusers will have no deterrent to stop them from torturing and killing animals, and potentially humans. Stricter laws must be enforced, even if not for the animals, at least for the sake of public safety.
If you ever suspect animal abuse in your community, please do not hesitate to contact authorities. Read this for guidelines on what to do if you suspect animal abuse. And check this out for a list of hotlines you can call to report animal cruelty.
And remember to sign the petition and share this with your network in hopes of getting these eight cruel teenagers appropriate punishments for their crimes!
