These days, pit bulls are some of the most marginalized dogs. They are considered aggressive and dangerous by many, which has prompted certain communities to pass breed specific legislation (BSL) that outlaws or greatly restricts the ownership of certain dog breeds.
Yet, as studies have shown, aggression isn’t a breed-specific trait. In fact, American Pit Bull Terriers have a very high temperament score of 82.6 percent, surpassing more “cuddly” breeds like Bearded Collies and Chihuahuas.
A pit bull’s temperament will really depend on the dog’s owner, just like any other dog. If an owner treats them poorly, does not train them properly, or ignores health issues, then aggression may be a possibility.
However, if a guardian is responsible and treats a pit bull with respect, love, and proper care, then you will certainly be amazed at the love and loyalty pit bulls will return to you. Truly, pits just want to give love and get love, as adorable pit bull Dolly proves.
Dolly joined Angela Eden’s family when she was just a puppy, after Eden adopted Duke, another pit bull, from a local shelter. Duke had been found in poor conditions, “emaciated and heart worm-positive,” prior to this rescue, from an apartment “where his previous owner had died,” as reported by The Huffington Post.
Both Dolly and Duke arrived into Eden’s home after her family had to part with a golden retriever who was showing signs of aggression. According to The Huffington Post, the retriever was sent to live with Eden’s father.
“When my daughter was a year old, he started snarling,” Eden said, speaking about their golden retriever. “It’s so ironic because people are like ‘pit bulls, pit bulls,’ and I’m like, ‘Actually, I had to get rid of my golden retriever.’”
Since adopting Duke and Dolly, Eden has no complaints. Both dogs get along beautifully. Actually, Dolly has gotten so comfortable with her adopted brother Duke that she is frequently found sitting right on top of him. Duke doesn’t seem to mind though, enjoying the added warmth of his new friend.
Take a look at Duke and Dolly’s adorable relationship with the photos below, courtesy of Angela Eden, which originally appeared on The Unexpected Pit Bull.

Truly amazing. Love this article. Love the pictures. It shows how funny and loving these dogs can really be. I have an adopted pitbull terrier that I love to death. I love seeing these pictures. Reminds me of how my Rottie sits on the Pitbull. Too cute!
