The Supreme Court decided to overrule the Roe v. Wade decision, giving power back to states to regulate abortion rights. Many poor individuals and minorities will be affected by this ruling in Republican-controlled states in the South and Midwest. To make matters worse, the South Carolina Senate has introduced a bill, S 1373, that would ban all travel out of state for abortion care, and would punish a driver for taking a pregnant woman out of state for abortion care.

“No state has the right to prohibit travel. The right stems from the Constitution and has been recognized by the Supreme Court,” said Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in an interview.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) also said, “How are you going to keep somebody from traveling? That’s silly. And they know it’s silly, but they’re just trying to fool the American people into thinking they’re doing something significant.”

There are several reasons why someone would choose to have an abortion. Some people aren’t financially stable, some are too young, and some may have physical health complications. Ultimately, people should have the right to do what they want with their bodies and have access to safe medical care.
