Petition: Demand Congress Withhold Funding from the Department of Homeland Security

People being taken into unmarked vans by masked strangers and driven away without any explanation is something that most, if not all, people would agree is scary and unlawful. It seems like a crime that the police or government officials would be trying to investigate and stop. However, this is exactly what is going on in Portland at the hands of Trump and federal agents.

Recently, there have been many videos showing police escalating peaceful BLM protests and assaulting protestors. Officers have used teargas, mace, animals, excessive force, and rubber bullets to severely harm innocent people who are protesting against this kind of brutality. Now, things are getting even worse and more violent.

After President Trump signed an executive order concerned with providing federal protection for monuments and buildings, the Department of Homeland Security deployed federal officers to Portland, Oregon. The executive order allows Trump to bypass receiving permission from local elected officials before sending in federal officers. The Portland Mayor, Ted Wheeler, and Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, have both expressed disapproval of the federal officers’ actions and believe that the officers are making the situation worse.

The federal agents in Portland are not only continuing to harm protestors with tear gas, excessive force, etc., but they also have been snatching protestors and detaining them in unmarked vans without any explanation or information. There is an extreme violation of their rights and should never be allowed. Sign this petition to demand that Congress withhold funding from the Department of Homeland Security until it halts this violence against the American people!
