While on vacation in Thailand, Meagan Penman came across a dog who appeared to have lost the ability to use his hind legs. Seeing him drag around his back two legs, she immediately felt compelled to help the him. The dog, which she named, Leo, was covered with ticks and clearly very malnourished. Penman tried to find a local shelter that would take him in, but none were able to.
Unwilling to give up on Leo, Penman launched a GoFundMe campaign and Facebook page to help raise money that would allow her to bring the dog back to Canada with her to receive care.

A few weeks later, she brought Leo to a Thai vet to help gauge the extent of his injury. The x-rays revealed that little Leo would likely never walk again because his back had been broken. For the next three months, Leo stayed in the care of the vet while Penman arranged for a Canadian family to sponsor him.
Thanks to the GoFundMe campaign, Penman was able to raise enough money to get Leo to his new foster mom, Jamie Smith, in Ontario. In addition to getting a loving new home, Leo has received a new set of wheels to help him walk!

Smith set up a crowdfunding page through YouCaring.org to ensure that Leo’s vet bills will be covered for life. Smith’s fundraising goals were reached – and exceeded – in no time at all! According to Penman, “[Leo is] pretty much set for the rest of his days.”

Keep on rolling, Leo!
