Oscars Honor Los Angeles After Wildfires

The Academy has unveiled plans for the 97th Oscars, set to take place on Sunday, March 2, with a renewed focus on honoring the city of Los Angeles in light of recent wildfires. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang shared details in a letter to members, emphasizing the importance of unity and celebrating the city’s resilience.

Acknowledging the devastation caused by the fires, Kramer and Yang expressed gratitude for the community’s Support during these trying times. They encouraged members to contribute to ongoing relief efforts and provided resources for aid. The ceremony aims to highlight the enduring power of storytelling and filmmaking while showcasing the beauty of Los Angeles as a “city of dreams.”

This year’s event, hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, introduces a few changes. In a departure from tradition, live performances of nominated songs will be replaced by personal insights and reflections from the songwriters and creative teams. Kramer and Yang highlighted the significance of this change, noting it will “uncover the stories and inspiration behind this year’s nominees.”
