Considering 100 elephants are poached every single day for ivory, to say these creatures deal with an unimaginable amount of stress, anxiety, and fear in their lives is an understatement. Despite the fact that elephants are known for their tight-knit families and peer circles, due to rampant poaching, many orphaned baby elephants never get to experience all the love their family could have offered.
The baby elephant was the sad victim of this reality. This youngster is an orphan at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) near Nairobi, Kenya. The Trust takes in young elephants and rhinos who have been orphaned by poaching and rehabilitates them with an end goal of reintroducing them into the wild.
Daily walks and colorful, comfy blankets are just some of the perks at DSWT!

Despite the terrible circumstances, this baby elephant is getting a second chance at life thanks to these kind humans.

While nothing could compare to a mother’s love, these elephants sure are getting lots of love, care, and massages! Trunk massages are not only super fun and satisfying for little ones, but also they help clean the inside of their trunks. This baby elephant is clearly loving it!
Hopefully, one day more people will open their eyes and see how deeply emotional and affectionate elephants can be. These animals deserve to live without fear of being captured for zoos or their ivory. We can all help make this a reality by supporting organizations like DSWT and sharing stories like this to encourage others to act as well!
