Man Welds Wagons for His Disabled Dog (PHOTOS)

Having a special needs animal naturally poses some challenges and so these companions often require guardians who will go above and beyond to ensure their safety and happiness.

Josh W. of New York is just one of these amazing guardians. According to Dog Heirs, he “loves spending time with his rescue dog Keller, who is blind and has three legs.”

Keller, an Akita/Chow mix named in honor of Helen Keller, almost didn’t make it to her next life chapter with Josh as her original guardian had planned to put her down, Dog Heirs reports.

Thankfully, she was picked up by the shelter Josh volunteers at after she had run away from her first home. As Josh tells Dog Heirs, it was “love at first sniff for me!”

Since taking Keller into his home, he has combined his love for her and his passion for welding to think up ways to make life just a little bit easier for her. One of his first contraptions was a kayak-bike attachment, which allowed him to take her out and around the neighborhood with ease.

Seeing how much she loved the kayak, he decided to continue welding and came up with the wagon attachment below.

And guess what? Keller is already a huge fan and can’t wait to go on more adventures with her guardian!

Their close bond has even inspired a friend of Josh’s to create a MS Paint drawing of them taking one of their famed outdoor rides.

Josh’s creations have certainly warmed the hearts of those around him, but more importantly, they have offered Keller a way to fully experience and enjoy life like any other dog, which is one of the best gifts a guardian can give a special needs companion.
