When Jackie gave birth upon arriving at the slaughterhouse, rescuers were called to help the mama and her baby. Sadly, Jackie’s son was too ill, and despite all of the rescuers’ work, he could not be saved. However, this experience gave Jackie a second chance at life.
She struggled at first. Jackie didn’t want to be around people and spent days crying for her lost calf. Even though she was finally safe at a sanctuary, she was extremely stressed. That is until she met Dixon.
Dixon, born on a dairy farm and listed on Craigslist, was rescued at just two weeks old. After arriving at the sanctuary and getting the care that he needed, he was put into a stall next to the grieving mother, Jackie. This was a huge turning point. Dixon needed a mother after being separated on the dairy farm, and Jackie missed her son. It was a perfect match.
Jackie still doesn’t love being near humans, but she has gotten so much calmer and happier since meeting Dixon. They both are integrated into the herd, and even though they’ve found new friends, they still love spending time together.
