A haunting glimpse into the underwater world has gone viral after Greek photographer Odysseas Froilan dropped his GoPro into the ocean from a cruise ship—and what it revealed is as fascinating as it is terrifying. According to a recent piece by Jen Thomas for LADbible, Froilan’s camera sank deep into the sea, spinning as it descended and capturing what lies beneath the glossy surface that so many of us take for granted.

At first, the daytime footage shows harmless, curious fish swimming calmly near the ship’s anchor. It’s almost peaceful. But once the video cuts to night mode, the entire tone shifts. The eerie green of night vision and the darkness pressing in from every direction transform the scene into something straight out of a horror movie. Out of the blackness, several sharks appear—gliding silently just beyond visibility.

Commenters on Froilan’s YouTube post were shaken. One wrote, “It still takes my breath away with fear,” while another pointed out the dangers of entering the water at night, noting that many sharks are nocturnal predators. It’s a chilling reminder of how little we actually know about our oceans. Despite covering over 70% of our planet, only a small fraction of the deep sea has ever been explored.

Moments like this underscore the need to protect marine ecosystems—not fear them. Sharks, though terrifying to some, are essential apex predators that help keep marine populations in balance. Instead of demonizing them, we should be working harder to protect their habitats from overfishing, pollution, and Climate change.

So the next time you’re enjoying an ocean view, remember there’s a complex, fragile world below the waves—one that desperately needs our respect and protection.
