Up Close and Personal with Two Dancing Humpback Whales – A Spectacular Ocean Encounter! [Video]

In this video, wildlife photographer and researcher Andrew Stevenson gets up close and personal with two curious humpback whales dancing in Bermuda’s waters. The clip runs a little over seven minutes, but the entire encounter totaled three hours!

While filming the clip, Andrew’s hands shake from the cold and he remains passive so the whales are comfortable approaching him on their own terms. By the end of the video, the whales are pretty close to Andrew but remain at ease. That’s a scene you could never see at a zoo or marine park!

This video was taken as part of Andrew’s Humpback Whale Research Project, which began in 2007 as a way to collect data on humpback whale behavior while they migrate through Bermuda. Through researching whales and sharing information (such as this video) with the public, Andrew hopes to raise awareness of humpback whales and promote the Conservation of marine life in general.
