The non-GMO cereal good news keeps on rolling in, Green Monsters!

In a press release, Post Foods has announced that its “Grape Nuts Original” will become Non-GMO Project Verified beginning this month.

Post may also provide the same verification for some of its other cereal flavors, too: “We are exploring some of our other cereals to see if there is potential going forward to add more non-GMO verified products to the Post Foods product line. We are always listening to our consumers and looking for ways to provide a good variety of products.”

Post’s announcement comes shortly after General Mills’ proclamation that its original Cheerios cereals are now non-GMO (though not verified by any outside party as of yet).

While some have called General Mills’ decision a well-played marketing move, others questioned whether it was a catalyst the conventional market needed to get more companies to join in on non-GMO ingredient sourcing.

In our recent coverage of this story, we said: “Whether General Mills’ step to announce Cheerio’s as GMO-free was motivated by marketing or not, it seems that, at the very least, other food manufacturers with GMO-laden products will need to take the move into consideration, and perhaps even do something about it themselves.” And it seems we may be right!
