These Chimps Spent Most of Their Lives in a Lab … Now They’re Getting Treated to Awesome Birthday Parties in Sanctuary Home! (VIDEO)

Black Beauty Ranch is a sanctuary that many formerly exploited creatures call home. As detailed on their website, the sanctuary is home to more than 1,200 animals, all of which have been rescued from biomedical research laboratories, slaughterhouses, trophy hunting ranches, circuses, roadside zoos, and the exotic pet trade. Lulu and Midge are two of the three chimpanzees at the sanctuary. They were saved from an experimental medicine laboratory where they had to undergo invasive biomedical procedures for years.

Thankfully, those days of unnecessary cruelty are long behind them. In fact, they just celebrated their birthdays! Lulu rang in her 53rd year of life, while Midge celebrated his 42nd. And what better way to celebrate summer birthdays than with a luau-themed party? They bathed in the sun, enjoyed some drinks from the Tiki Bar (Pedialyte), and even got to open some presents! Watching these two play around in the sun, sip on their drinks, and unwrap their surprises truly gives us a glimpse of their unique personalities and emotional range. They really are just like us!
