Buzz Petition

Largely thanks to the widespread media coverage of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey officially closing their circus tents after ending their elephant acts, the public has become more aware of the abuse and corruption involved in the industry, and circuses have quickly grown out of favor as places for entertainment. Although many countries and several U.S. cities have outlawed the use of wild animals in live acts, many circuses are still operating and reaping in profits at the expense of innocent captive animals.

Garden Bros is a particularly corrupt circus operation, having been exposed for countless incidents of animal abuse, including violently punching, kicking, and whipping animals like camels, starving alligators so they stay small and letting them die from starvation and neglect, and forcibly dragging a buffalo calf by a hook through his sensitive nose. For the elephants at Garden Bros, bullhooks lead to bloody gashes left untreated, electric shocks force them to submit to unnatural demands, and elephants who are in pain or distress are ignored and not given veterinary care.

Thanks to animal activists, the suffering of the elephants at Garden Bros has been caught on camera and shared online. Two elephants, Isa and Viola, are seen exhibiting symptoms of the severe psychological disorder common in captive wild animals known as zoochosis. The elephants compulsively sway and bob their heads in distress as deafening music blares and a noisy crowd waits for them to perform. You can watch the undercover footage below:

A petition has been set up on Care2 to release Isa and Viola to a sanctuary. The petition reports that these beautiful animals were kidnapped from the wild as babies and have been forced to perform for nearly 50 years. This must end now.

Please take a moment to sign the petition to release Isa and Viola to a sanctuary as soon as possible.

Although circuses are losing popularity, many people still visit them without thinking about how the animals are treated, so please make sure to spread awareness by sharing this with your network!
