Elephants are magnificent creatures that have the astounding abilities to communicate and function as family units and societies. Their intelligence is vast and they are compassionate, highly emotional animals. Despite all this, greedy humans target elephants in many ways. Of course, a giant threat to many elephants are poachers and hunters, but for others, the threats are the entertainment and tourism industries.

There are many elephants who are forced to perform unnatural tricks in front of roaring crowds, while others are held captive at zoos, and many more are forced to give rides to tourists on their backs. And the above video shows yet another bizarre way an elephant is exploited and abused for tourism and entertainment — by being forced to lay still in filthy water while showering tourists on her back! The elephant handler is always nearby with weapon in hand to force the elephant to follow orders.

What the gleeful laughing tourists may not be aware of is that the elephant is not doing this willingly whatsoever. Elephants used in the tourism industry are often kidnapped as babies so they can be handled easier and “trained” to perform unnatural acts. The “training” or “breaking in” process involves shackling baby elephants in cage-like restraints while they are beaten and stabbed with bullhooks by so-called trainers known as mahouts.

Many people are unaware of how elephants are used and abused for the entertainment and tourism industries, so PLEASE share this as a lesson why wild animals belong in the wild and should never be used for our entertainment!
