Although this story and the video is heart-warming and cute, we do not encourage our readers to feed wildlife. Feeding wildlife interferes with the balance between wildlife populations and their habitat and could lead them to be reliant on humans for survival, amongst other problems. If you find an animal in need, contact a local wildlife rehabber/rescuer or veterinarian ASAP, or call a rescue hotline. Here are some that might help!

Most people would be pretty freaked out if a bird flew into their house and made themselves at home. This man, João Silvestrini, however, isn’t phased at all by the hummingbird who visits his home daily. According to Silvestrini, the hummingbird is young and was left at his window by the mother bird. While the mother does not come around anymore, the young bird comes by for a snack rather often.

The bird flies right into Silvestrini’s kitchen and is met by his human friend with a special feeder and lots of smiles. The bird buzzes around Silvestrini, stopping on his finger for a moment, then swoops in for a drink. The hummingbird sticks around for a few minutes, then goes on his way out the window to enjoy the great outdoors.

It is clear that Silvestrini and this hummingbird share a special connection. Although the hummingbird is lovely company, Silvestrini respects the bird’s wild nature and does not try to keep the bird as a pet.
