Celebrity status comes with a huge amount of perks like money, free gifts, legions of adoring fans, and most importantly, influence. While the ability to influence others is awesome, it can also be a huge burden. In the words of the late Uncle Ben Parker from Spider-Man “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Luckily, it seems like we hear about celebrities doing something great for animals every day! From Bob Barker fighting against wild animal circuses to James Cameron advocating the importance of a plant-based diet on a world stage, celebrities are using their fame to help inspires to take positive action. Today we’re ecstatic to add another awesome celebrity to that roster: The Rock.

This is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – the dog. He was dumped at  North Central Shelter with metal wiring wrapped tightly around his mouth. The wiring had to be removed with bolt cutters and he needed 17 stitches to heal, but that wasn’t nearly the  worst of his problems.

Dwayne also has a grade five heart murmur (with six being the most severe). This means that he can have heart attacks from any amount of cardiovascular stress – like exercise or being left in his kennel for too long. Luckily, the condition can be fixed with surgery but it costs over $4,500.

The shelter caring for this little one created a fundraiser to help cover the cost of surgery. When the human Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson heard about the dog who shared his namesake, he immediately donated  $1,500 towards the medical bills. After that the donations came flooding in and the goal was reached with weeks to spare!

It takes a ton of character to look outside yourself and use your influence for others. Thanks to Dwayne Johnson’s kind actions, this sweet pup now has a fighting chance at survival! Now, isn’t knowing that you saved a life way better than having all the fame and fortune in the world?
