Dolphins just know how to have fun and crash surf competitions! This makes sense since they’re the original kowabunga surfers. They’ve been riding the surf for centuries across the globe, well before the first human ever even made a surfboard. It’s all play for them as they swoop in and out of the waves, swimming up within the swell, ditching just before it crashes in the shallows.
Recently, dolphins showed off their surfing skills at the Rincon Classic Surf Competition in Santa Barbara and ended up stealing the show.
With all the horrors of Taiji, it’s nice to see the playful side of dolphins showing up in the news to remind us of how truly special these brilliant animals are when left to their own devices in the wild. These incredibly social animals call each other by name and put play at the top of the list of things to do everyday.
