Dog Who Was Starved and Beaten With a Trash Can Is Now Fighting For His Life (PHOTOS)

The selfless work animal rescuers do on a daily basis is nothing short of inspiring. Take for instance, Trio Animal Foundation (TAF), a non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois, that works to help save abused and neglected dogs. Just last week, TAF rescued a dog who was hung by his neck and had an acidic solvent thrown on his body and now, TAF is in the midst of yet another heartbreaking case.

The Chicago Police Department received a 911 call about a small dog who was being repeatedly hit with a garbage can on the side of the road. Who would do something so cruel to an innocent animal?! When police arrived, the emaciated dog was barely moving.

Now named Wynter, the little one has been rushed to the veterinary hospital thanks to TAF. He is currently on IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication. His medical team has also been monitoring his neurological function for any head trauma or shock after being beaten with a garbage can. Thankfully, no neurological deficits have been spotted. 

Now that Wynter’s pain is under control and he is on antibiotics, his fur is being clipped in phases so he doesn’t become stressed out. This sweetheart only weighs FIVE POUNDS, half of his ideal body weight, TAF notes.

Wynter has been moved into a foster home, the same home of three TAF therapy dogs (Antler, Hazel Grace, and Bentley). He is being fed six small meals a day to prevent refeeding syndrome. Click on the video below to see Wynter’s adorable smile!

While they don’t know who did this to Wynter, there is no way around it: this is animal abuse. Some incidents of animal cruelty go unreported because of a lack of understanding about what is considered neglect. There are signs to look out for when identifying animal abuse and neglect. It’s good to know the signs in case you ever come across an incident of animal abuse.

It’s important to remember that law enforcement and animal control departments highly advise against citizens taking matters into their own hands. As much as it angers you to see an animal being abused or neglected, you could end up putting yourself in a dangerous situation when confronting an animal abuser or trespassing on someone’s property to rescue an animal. It can take more than reporting animal abuse to the authorities, so to help in prosecuting the abuser, the best thing you can do is document the details, dates, and times of any incidents and contact animal control immediately.
