Two Tailz Rescue recently took in a dog, discovered by an Animal Control (AC) officer, who was in a state that leaves one lost for words – the animal was buried alive in mud in a creek, submerged with only his head sticking out, just barely above the water.

The rescue’s founder received a call to save the dog and immediately agreed to help, unsure what to expect. Early in the morning, the beautiful dog, now named Moses, was transported to a local vet, where his treatment for multiple medical issues has begun. The rescue reports that Moses has been behaving wonderfully with the vet staff and allowing them to do everything that is necessary.

Moses is approximately one and a half to two years old and he is believed to be either a Labrador/Pit Bull or a Shar Pei/Pit Bull mix – which is so far hard to assess due to his skin being in very poor condition.

As the team found out, Moses suffers from demodex mange, which is not contagious but will take a few months to get under control. He also has bacterial and fungal infections, very bad eye infections, which cause one of his eyes to barely open, and, on top of that, stomach issues associated with vomiting.

Moses’s skin is hot and itchy and he has to be bathed in a microbial bath plus a conditioner that helps numb his skin. His eyes are treated with ointment and drops that relieve the pain.

Although he undeniably suffers and is far from any sort of physical comfort yet, the rescuers point out that Moses is one of the sweetest animals they ever had the privilege to save. He is still a little scared but has already given thankful kisses to the rescue’s founder and her mom, whom he has really taken to!

Since he is still in isolation at the vet, he cannot be fully temper-tested yet, but it is already clear that Moses is “gentle, loving, non-reactive to cats, and is interested in dogs with his tail-wagging”.

Moses is still in a bad shape, all of his medical conditions are manageable, but they need to be tackled one at a time. The rescuers predict that it will take two to three months for sweet Moses to recover and heal.

Two Tailz Rescue is working to find more information as to where, how, and by whom Moses was found. According to the information already known to the team, at the time when Moses was discovered, he seemed to have fallen into the creek and sank in attempts to get out and the incident happened without a human involvement. The more he tried to get out, the more he sunk into the mud. To make it even worse, it started raining, which put Moses on the very verge of a tragedy…

If he had not been found by the AC officer in time, already sinking with his head just above the water, Moses certainly would have died. The frustrating part of the story is the fact that several hours went by before the rescue, while neighbors who called to complain about a dog’s loud cries and whines did not try to find and help him. “We are SO THANKFUL for the officer who rescued Moses,” the team writes on their Facebook page. “He is a true hero.”

Moses is lucky to be alive, but now he really needs help. The rescue will greatly appreciate all donations for his medical treatment – donations can be made through the organization’s website and need to be notated “for Moses.” He also very urgently needs a foster home.
