Mother cows share an amazing bond with their babies. Like human mothers, cows form instantaneous bonds with their babies that last a lifetime. Unfortunately, cows in the animal agriculture industry rarely ever get to enjoy this bond. In the dairy industry, calves are ripped from their mother’s side a few hours after they are born to prevent them from drinking milk that is “meant” for human consumption. Similarly, calves are separated from their mothers in the meat industry once they are old enough to be sent to pasture, and then eventually a feedlot.
In both instances, the mother and baby experience extreme trauma and separation anxiety. Mother cows are known to bellow uncontrollably in mourning of their calves. When you think about how your mom would have reacted if you suddenly went missing, you can begin to understand.
In this video, a kind group of people reunite a missing calf with his mother. The little cow had managed to slip under the fence and couldn’t be seen beneath the tall grass. According to the video’s description, the mother cow was waiting by the fence and mooing loudly, clearly disturbed by her calf’s absence. Luckily, these people were around to reunite the calf and its mother. The happy moos from the mother cow will bring a smile to your face! We hope these two get to stay together for the rest of their lives!
