Watching this adorable pair play together, we wish there was a background reel of “Why Can’t We Be Friends” streaming in the video. This cat and owl have been friends since the day they met. While it might seem odd that a cat and a bird would get along so swimmingly (excuse the interspecies puns!), this pair doesn’t even realize they should technically be “enemies.”

These two were brought together by their human, Brazilian biologist, André Costa. Costa works for Burki Actividades Ambientais, an environmental education program that teaches the public about the natural world. This little owl fledgling, named Forbi, came home from work one day with Costa and was soon introduced to Cleo, the cat.

And just like that, the two have grown to be best friends over the two years they have known one another.

Setting aside all preconceived notions about how they “should” interact with one another, these two much prefer to be friends. Don’t you just love when a lesson in friendship comes in the most interesting package!
