Brilliant Brewery Makes Biodegradable, Edible Six-Pack Rings That Feed Marine Animals (VIDEO)

After a long week, there’s nothing like kicking back with friends and enjoying a beer. A small craft beer brand in Florida, Saltwater Brewery, knows this and is trying to do everything they can to make sure these good times can keep on rollin’ – no environmental harm required. That’s why they’ve teamed up with scientists to create Edible Six Pack Rings, which are 100 percent biodegradable and edible for marine animals!

So many of us might disregard the tiny plastic rings that hold a six-pack together. But for marine animals, this plastic packaging is deadly. In fact, approximately 700 marine species are faced with extinction due to the threat plastic poses to them from entanglement, Pollution, and ingestion. With 8.8 million tons of plastic making their way from land to the oceans every single year, we’ve got to use any and all innovations to combat this devastation!

That’s why Edible Six Pack Rings are so amazing. Made from barley and wheat ribbons from the brewing process, if the rings make it to the oceans, it can be safely eaten by marine animals. On their Vimeo page, they write Edible Six Pack Rings are a design that “instead of killing animals, feeds them.”
