Lexus is a beautiful girl who has been through more than any dog should have to face.

Lexus was rescued from the notorious Rose Lane trailer park in Calhoun in a joint effort between Southern Cross Animal Rescue (SCAR) and the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. She had been kept there as part of a dog fighting ring, and when rescued, was heavily pregnant.

Can you imagine the ordeal this poor little girl went through while carrying those pups? It is thought that Lexus was kept solely to breed puppies, but the fear she must have suffered is unimaginable for any of us.

Just one day after her rescue, Lexus gave birth to seven pups.

Sadly one of those pups didn’t make it, but the others are all healthy and have gone on to be adopted. Poor Lexus remains in the shelter without a home. Lexus is a beautiful, calm girl who would fit in perfectly with a family. She is a snuggler and more of an indoor girl than one that will run around outside. Though, you wouldn’t know that from this picture!

Unfortunately, as with so many dogs in shelter care, she is heartworm-positive, a condition that needs to be treated to restore her to full health. But even with this health problem, who wouldn’t want this beautiful princess as part of their family?

Southern Cross Animal Rescue is calling for sponsorship for Lexus if she isn’t immediately adopted, which will cover getting her spayed and vaccinated, as well as treat her heartworm condition. They have even set up an Amazon wishlist for donations of toys, food, collars, blankets, and treats to keep her entertained while she is under their care.

We wish you well, Lexus! We know you will find your forever home soon!

Adopting a dog is a much better option than purchasing one from a store that is likely filled by dogs from puppy mills. By adopting a dog that is in a shelter, you are saving them from a life in unsuitable long-term living conditions, and in many cases, from being euthanized. Dogs like Lexus have so much love to give and are so deserving of a second chance at the life they should have had from the beginning.

Southern Cross Animal Rescue is a non-profit that strives to help overcome the problem of pet overpopulation through public education, community outreach, foster networks, and transportation programs. To help them continue their important work or to adopt a beautiful dog like Lexus, please get in contact.
