As a child, on particularly windy days, my mother would always joke about having to tie weights to my shoes to keep me from blowing away. If you have ever lived by a body of water  and experienced the strength of the wind when a storm is blowing, you understand just how practical this proposition actually is.

Perhaps little weighted shoes are what Sue Drommond could have used for Bibi, her petite Maltese-shitzu when she set out for a walk across Brighton pier. Facing gale-force winds, the little dog was forcefully knocked off the side of the pier while walking with his guardian and landed himself in Melbourne bay!

While Bibi was able to swim enough to keep his head above water, the strong winds and harsh current spelled disaster for this poor terrified pooch. Thankfully for Bibi and Drummond, a kind stranger nearby sprung into action to rescue the struggling creature.

Bibi tries to fight against the strong current to get back to land.

Drummond can all but reach Bibi. She worried she would “never see him again.”

Raden Soemawinata was nearby, paying respects as his family sprinkled his Grandmother’s ashes into the bay. Seeing the dog he knew what needed to be done.

Soemawinata told the Melbourne Herald Sun, “‘It was pretty cold and windy, but it wasn’t such a hard decision to jump in, it wasn’t such a great feat.”

It just so happens that our hero is a part-time model, as he explained to the Melbourne Herald Sun, “getting into my jocks isn’t so different to what I do for work.”

In a matter of seconds, Soemawinata was able to grab Bibi and hoist him onto the dock into the ecstatic arms of Drummond.

Bibi is safe and warm, barely phased by the dramatic event. Surely he won’t be going by the pier again if any sort of wind is blowing!
