In a speech about the climate crisis, Biden blamed oil refineries in the Northeast for giving him and others he grew up with cancer.

Biden spoke in Somerset, Massachusetts, about how oil refineries in Pennsylvania would drift over to his hometown of Claymont, Delaware.
“The first frost, you knew what was happening,” he said in the speech. “You had to put on your windshield wipers to get, literally, the oil slick off the window. That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up [with] have cancer and why for the longest time, Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation. But that’s the past, and we’re going to get — we’re going to build a different future, one with clean energy, good-paying jobs.”
Biden stood outside Brayton Point, which is a former coal-fired power plant that is being converted into a factory making undersea cables for offshore wind energy. The White House clarified that Biden had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed before taking office, and he is fine and healthy.
Many are urging the president to declare a national climate emergency which could allow him to use his power to finally address Climate change.
Eight Democratic senators and Bernie Sanders sent a letter to Biden recently saying, “We ask that you start by declaring a climate emergency to unlock the broad powers of the National Emergency Act (NEA) and immediately pursue an array of regulatory and administrative actions to slash emissions, protect public health, Support national and energy security, and improve our air and water quality.”
Air Pollution is an invisible killer and has been linked to so many diseases, including cancer, fatty liver disease, depression, and other mental health issues, and a study even found that nearly 6 million babies born prematurely in 2019 were likely linked to air pollution. Eating meat has been linked to a rise in air pollution, and factory farms are one of the biggest to blame for our dirty air. According to the WHO, an estimated 4.2 million people every year are killed from outdoor air Pollution, and 99 percent of the global population breathes air that exceeds WHO guideline limits, with low and middle-income areas disproportionately affected.
